Alarm Fitted And Working?

Hi,

 

I've just found this forum and have already found answers to questions/problems on my 99 Tdi Ghia-X bought a couple of months ago. What an excellent source of info! :)

 

On the sale description was listed an alarm. Does anyone know if this is fitted as standard on the Ghia-X? How can I find out if it is fitted and working? I tried locking the doors using the remote whilst I was inside, then moving around but nothing happened. Should this have triggered the alarm?

sit in car and lock it with remote,

sit dead still for 30-60 sec till alarm arms its self then, move

 

If it has motion sensors the alarm will go off

 

if that dosent work lock it then smash a window :)

Thanks very much Martin and Fred. I tried both of your methods and no alarm. Opening the bonnet confirmed that there is no trigger switch at the hinge and hence no alarm has been fitted. :(

i presume no flashy led near door button?

i own a 98 ghia x auto with alarm as standard and thought they all had them.

I have the flashing led in the door and it behaves as described in various threads here. I had expected the alarm to be fitted as standard but maybe that isnt the case? or maybe mine was removed at some point (but there is no switch at the bonnet hinge, as pointed out by fredt).

 

Can anyone else out there confirm that an alarm would have been fitted as standard to a 99 Ghia-X?:(

UK seems to be just about the only European market that fits as standard.

Not an import as far as I know. Maybe it was removed/disabled but there is no sign that there was ever a switch installed under the bonnet (and I can see where it should be mounted).

Seems that in the usual way car manufactures screw every penny out they can

I think it was an optional extra it was on ours

 

Having said that there not worth a light

Force door lock turns them off

Any recommendations for a retrofit alarm? Is there much benefit in fitting one?

hi peeps had same queery with my gal whether it had an alarm or not,its got flashy red light on d/door.decide to ask local ford dealer chap there said its situated under passenger seat underfloor cover.checked this and found the imobilizer unit with the words alarm on it.hurray i thought! until this nice chap told me that if it has 3 no large blocks going into it IT HAS AN ALARM.if it only has 2no blocks guess wot mines only got 2 ~~@''''#'''@' damn no alarm hope this helps
